Dani was right and not right.
The Far Side connection is only applicable to those who don't know the comic. Joe Plumber doesn't know what a "single-panel" comic is. So the comparison to Far Side is fair, because there is no other single-panel comic that is as universal.
That said I would still probably use the phrase, hoping that someone would get it. Otherwise I describe it as Far Side without the censorship of print media.
And a humour comic that is single-panel is bound to use some of the same humour as another single-panel humour comic.

Also, hooray for Canadian University newspapers! I used to write for one, after all.

1. He probably forgot. He's busy with the whole updating everyday lest people complain like babies.
2. If he DID plan to not to tell us, then I guess he'd think we'd never find about it, since we do seem like lazy bums.
