Re: Interview with the freethinker
So you're saying that the Romans weren't good at their job? They knew how to kill people. And anyway if we take the Bible as the sequence of events, he was stabbed in the side with a spear and his blood had separated into plasma and water.

I missed that bit. But the side stabbing is common knowledge. Haven't you seen Constantine?!?Cirtur wrote:So you're saying that the Romans weren't good at their job? They knew how to kill people. I'm all for conspiracy theories and I've had a lifetime to create my own about Jesus, but lets stick to the information before us a little, yes?
p.s. if are all you Jews happy we're picking on a different group for once?

I haven't seen Constantine. But if he ended up on a Roman cross, that is essentially proof that he died. And such a high-profile case as well.

Re: Interview with the freethinker
In Constantine they find the spear that stabbed Jesus. It's kind of important, but not really when you consider the whole movie has very little plot (I still loved it though).Cirtur wrote:I haven't seen Constantine. But it's not hard for me to believe that some lazy Roman didn't quite check to see if he was dead enough. If I was going to be all conspiracy theory, I'd be more inclined to say that he never rose from the dread... because only his close friends saw him when he came back. You know what? I saw my cousin several times after he died. It's called a 'dream'.
All that aside I have the utmost respect for any religion that promotes respect and love and crusades and all of that.

Crusades are a large part of love and respect, Kimra.

Re: Interview with the freethinker
Actually it wasn't a very high profile case at all. It was a small cult among many in a more rural area of the roman empire. It started to become more widespread after Jesus' death, especially among the marginals, like prostitutes and the homeless, but it wasn't until the third century crisis when Romans began converting on mass to mystery religions (which includes Christianity) that it became a religion of consequence.Cirtur wrote:I haven't seen Constantine. I have not seen this movie, but now I don't think I will. Helena of Constantinople (Constantine's mother) found the true cross, not the holy lance (also known as that spear Jesus was stabbed with). The holy lance wasn't found until the first Crusade during the siege of Antioch.*
*Of course I'm aware that the neither of these relics were likely authentic, but I'm still a history nerd, and I tend to obsess over details like this. This is the same reason I can't watch Xena.

Oooh, that Constantine. (Yes I just looked it up. The worst part is I have seen that movie). I'm just going to stop talking now.

This doesn't really make sense, but I'm going to say yes.Kimra wrote:p.s. if are all you Jews happy we're picking on a different group for once?
Also, I liked Constantine. It was a fun movie with decent special effects. Pretty much the same reasons why I liked Van Hellsing.

Re: Interview with the freethinker
Van Hellsing and Constatine where two very different movies. One was excellent viewing that I could watch on repeat with ease.* The other was a movie that had a lot of potential.** I admit to owning both on DVD, because I like potential a lot, but it doesn't make it a movie I would recommend anyone actually watch. I put forward that Constatine is about twenty grades moreLordRetard wrote:Oh dear god.mountainmage wrote:I liked Van Hellsing.
Now if anyone says that The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a good movie I will have to challenge them to fisticuffs.
*Constatine
**Van Hellsing

I saw a small segment of that film earlier today where Sean Connery shot a man from a long distance. It was suitably impressive to persuade me to watch the film.

Read the comic, you will be much more gratified by this... unless your a nine year old boy in which case the movie will appeal to you more because it doesn't require a brain.Cirtur wrote:I saw a small segment of that film earlier today where Sean Connery shot a man from a long distance.
