Re: What games are you playing right now?
Hi, forum; newbie here.
This thread was a fun read. I especially liked seeing all the classic and old school titles mentioned.
After years as a console gamer, I built my first dedicated gaming PC last month. I'd been planning to do this for a while, so back around Christmas when Steam had that insane sale, I loaded up on older games I'd never gotten to. I've been playing and enjoying Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, Psychonauts, Braid, Half Life 2: Lost Coast. I'm really addicted to Garry's Mod, though. I could waste the whole day goofing off with that.

Hot DAMN necro! This was appropriate. I really like NO MORE HEROES, it's nice. I was the only one who heard him ask the girl if they could do it, so for right now the kids are only seeing a lot of violence and cursing. I'm up against number eight. I lost twice against her because I forgot to recharge my sword. It's kinda embarrassing. I need to watch her to see when I can actually recharge it.
The mechanics of the game are interesting. I already see how some of the minigames can become tedious. Mowing the lawn is a funny thing still, although the novelty will probably be lost on me after a while. I also bought two rechargable Wii remote batteries with the recharge dock or port or whatever it's called, so no more buying double a's anymore. I would have typed AA but that would cheapen all the times I've walked into a store as a kid and asked for two double a's. Man, will I EVER need to ask for them again? I loved the convenience of the SP, but for years I've been buying the batteries.
Although I guess chicks use vibrator batteries, so the industry still will be going on strong I suppose.
I digress, the motion controls really add to the experience of the game. At first I thought it was every swing does a hit, but that would get old very fast. The simple button pressing in combination with the motion controls gives it that sense of urgency. I love waiting until the last moment to do a verticle slash to behead three opponents at once, and throwing those guys around gets interesting. I do have trouble stunning sometimes. I'll stun them but be unable to grab them or something. The humor is also great. Apparently the whole thing is just to have sex with the hot blond agent who convinces him, which is pretty silly. Going against the detective, who starts singing about a virgin, makes me think he's dug up some dirt on the character. The humor of the game gives it an extra touch. I recommend it to anyone who has a Wii right now but isn't playing this. The controls are a bit confusing but by the time you finish the tutorial you'll be able to take them out in no time.

Shinobu is pretty tough, I stayed up for most of the night trying to beat her. After memorising when to attack, I got her to almost no life several times before being hit by her instant death attack every time; shit! Assassination missions are always the better way to get money, but even those are a hassle 'cause you have to bike to get the mission, then bike to the mission, bike back, etc. The game is altogether pretty fun and pretty funny, though.

As it turns out, it's pretty damn hard to play Portal without a mouse.

My brother was really good at playing Quake without a mouse. He had no problem using the keyboard at all. It was quite impressive.

Do I need to be logged on to my steam account for it to be downloading? OR can I actually go to sleep?

Re: What games are you playing right now?
Haven't played portal yet, I'll get to that tomorrow. Man, I spent more than 15 tries on Shinobu before I beat her. I learned that she was weak to the wrestling moves, but once you get her low she has so little downtime between attacks that it's nearly impossible. I then realized if I did the training I went through the stage I would have had slightly more health and done more damage per strike. Also, after losing to her 16 times and fighting her so much, I felt sympathetic to her. It was cool that he only cut off her arm. I read that they planned to have her appear twice in the game. If she appears in the sequel no one tell me. Also, they said her character was 18 so I didn't feel bad about thinking her character design was kinda hot. And I fought her so many times that I recognized she was using a samurai sword technique that involves the resheathing of a blade and stuff that I read about before.
But god damn was she tough for no reason. I understand that when you try to stun someone they block it with the weapon. I do. But when she uses her forward slash move and I dodge behind her and donkey punch her in the head, I don't see how that doesn't work. I bought the next weapon from the store, I'm assuming it's more powerful or at least was worth the 98000. I'll definately be getting NMH2.

You are falling for their trick. (not that it really matters I guess)AHMETxRock wrote:Also, they said her character was 18 so I didn't feel bad about thinking her character design was kinda hot.
Also, I recommend getting in a wrestling move whenever you stun a boss but moreover it's generally not a good idea to try to stun them because regular beat attacks don't work and charged beat attacks are risky (and do not cause an automatic stun against bosses).

So I downloaded steam, I'll probably end up giving portal a try within the next few days.

I'm nearly done it. I don't know how far exactly, though. I'll probably give a go at beating it in the morning before going to breakfast with my sister.Apocalyptus wrote:So I downloaded steam, I'll probably end up giving portal a try within the next few days.

It's not a very long game; it only takes a few hours to finish. All the same the last test chamber takes about as long as all of the other ones put together.

This is unfair.
