It probably works the same way that machine translators work; that is, picking the most probable answer, rather than actually trying to figure out what makes more sense (as much as a machine can do so). This is actually much more accurate than teaching it to follow context (which makes perfect sense, but is not an intuitive thing to hear). The end result is that we have machines that are technically more accurate at following conversations or making translations, even though their mistakes are critical.
