Yeah, American hospitals, while properly equipped, usually have bad service.AHMETxRock wrote:Haha.++

I'm actually expecting something up to a $700 payout from my union. Isn't that weird? None of us know what it's for.AHMETxRock wrote:Guys, I know most of us are young, but it is really important to begin saving. Seriously, just 10 bucks a week if you can do it will be significant.

It sounds like you have a pretty sweet Librarian's union.
Can non-librarians join?

Police said they spent some time working out if they could charge the man with being armed with a weapon, as technically he was armed with part of a fish.

Uhh I think you need a job there, man. It's pretty sweet; they pay me too much money for a job that I can't get fired from. The catch is that you're constantly around customers and people who work at libraries, all of whom are totally insane*. Also, it's kind of boring. And it's a bitch to actually get a job, for very mysterious reasons (ex. we're not allowed to tell customers about external job postings).

There are some real postives to unions, that's for sure.LordRetard wrote:Uhh I think you need a job there, man. It's pretty sweet; they pay me too much money for a job that I can't get fired from. My sister's is particularly good. She can't be demoted without a huge deal, she's fulltime in her job as long as she wants it, and if she goes back to school, provided it is work-related they are incredibly supportive, both with funding and scheduling.*
So is your union through the city? I assume that is where the library runs through.
My friend works for provincial gov't and I'm not really sure how that works, whether she is unionized, or exactly the deal. I've never been properly unionized so it's a little fuzzy to me. She's never really spoken of it. Though she just switched jobs and now works with the new payday loan legislation** and stuff that comes with that.
*She took a correspondance course a year ago. It was all stuff she knew already from her Bachelor's. It was funded 50% (both books and tuition), the rest was a tax write-off. She went from 5 days to 3, and I think was payed for 4 because the time off required was also partially funded. And she only took the course to get the certificate which would in turn increase her pay markely.
**The best bit of legislation that I've seen come from the provincial government in a decade at least. I actually stumbled upon it last year when applying to a non-profit organization which was one of the instrumental lobby groups in getting that through and thought it was awesome. Payday loan places prey on the poor, throwing them deeper and deeper in debt, so seeing some move to alleviate that is great. I don't know all the details, but I know you now need to be registered and there are limits to the interest and such that you can charge.

Tamiflu? Ahahahaha. That stuff is for sissies. When I had flu, why, I treated myself with nothing but hot water and my own sweat, as I crawled several miles home, choking on my own mucus, barely able to breathe or talk. . . Such is as real men do.mountainmage wrote:I'm uninsured myself. When I was sick a few weeks ago, my box of Tamiflu cost me 104.99. Fucking bullshit.
I have no insurance also. This is not too much of an issue as I am very healthy, but if I get some kind of injury I'm screwed.
This story sounds very familiar. A little too familiar. . .Sahan wrote:Yeah, hospitals aren't as nice as America it seems, it's like all their hospitals are private hospitals, possibly without the luxurious extras that having private cover provides.
When I broke my arm in school the nurse suggested I go to the nearest hospital to get treatment, the nearest one being privately run. After waiting for nearly an hour in the emergency ward (My P.E. teacher wasn't sure at first if I'd damaged my spine or not, but I didn't) they took an X-ray, gave me some morphine so that I fell asleep for the next 4 hours, found out that I didn't have private cover, and told me to go to the public children's hospital instead, but not without charging 900 dollaridoos and bandaging my arm, which the nurses at the other hospital immediately told me to remove, because you shouldn't be bandaging broken limbs wthout realigning them. Also they told the public hospital that my right arm was broken when it was clearly my left arm in a sling.

I'd rather be smart than tough, any day. The faster I get better, the quicker I can get back to school without worrying about getting other people sick.Euclidthegreek wrote:Tamiflu? Ahahahaha. The getting back to school part is important. The not getting others sick is just an unwanted side-effect.

I'd rather be a well-educated chump with a decent job than a high school drop out working in retail.
