What they think is weird, you think is fun!
I just got massively ripped on (and will continue to get massively ripped on) by my work colleagues, because when we went for an afternoon coffee I asked if any of them knew any interesting obscurish characters from Greek mythology. No one really knew any, and when they asked why, I told them;
'I just got a new external hard drive and I tend to name my computer items after mythological figures, so I wanted some ideas.'
Apparently thats weird, but I think its fun! It started with a laptop, which I called Loki, because it was a laptop for recreational use of multiple types. After that, it just kinda took off. I've named all my PCs, laptops and external harddrives (>200gb) for the last couple of years. It was fun!! Plus it helped me define what I had purchased the item for. Eg I named my music production and programming computer (disconnected from net) Daedalus, because it was a computer for creation. I named the successing laptop Icarus, because it was for the same purpose (and it was fast ie it 'flew'). Some of my current set is:
- Minos - current 'hub' PC
- Lachesis - work laptop
- Pan - music external HD
- Chronos - portable 1gig multimedia HD
Comon, help patch my ego. Tell me the idea is awesome (feel free to add your own stories)

I just think it'd be worth it to name everything after the same mythology. You've got Loki and Daedelus hobnobbing it up! It's bound to end in tears.

Just having Loki is enough to assure that.
Police said they spent some time working out if they could charge the man with being armed with a weapon, as technically he was armed with part of a fish.

Everything I have now is just Greek. All the other drives died... IN MYSTERIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES! One external drive hung itself with its own USB cableDonRetrasado wrote:I just think it'd be worth it to name everything after the same mythology. You've got Loki and Daedelus hobnobbing it up! Re: What they think is weird, you think is fun!
I try to make Rube-Goldberg machines that actually make my life easier.
I am not a morning person. In order to combat this I set my alarum on the other side of the room. It's a big, loud, shouty one so I have to get up to switch it off (I actually now have a second alarum that wakes me up 3 minutes earlier, so I can get up and switch it off before it screams bloody murder at me). Anyway, before the dawn of the second alarum, I tried having a mono-alarum procedure, which would definitely get me out of bed, but I have a very cold floor, you see, and no time to find my slippers (nor my pipe!) before sprinting across the room to switch off the howling banshee.
So in order to cheat myself, I set up a system where I could turn off (well, snooze) the alarum withoutlifting a finger getting out of bed. Using a nail-hook embedded in my wall, I set up a cantilever with the small boot from Mousetrap affixed to the end. Lifting my finger and pulling a string dangling right by my pillow would offset this cantilever, swinging the boot around, where it would kick a small toy car in the butt. The car was balanced perfectly on the dado rail around my room, and the force would kick it three feet in a straight line, where it would tip a large marble off the edge. The marble would then land on a sponge on a pair of scales. The other scale would tip, knocking off a heavy weight (huge lump o' blu-tac®) attached to some string. The string would pull a stick affixed to the table next to the alarum-clock, which had a little rubber head attached to it. It would fall onto the snooze button, and then the sound would stop. Great success.
It worked in tests, and was successfully used for three full days, failing on the fourth (the blu-tac® was kind of a bit sticky and clumpy and didn't roll off the scales as planned. The excitement of watching the machine in action was enough to get me out of bed, however the effort of setting it up each night began to outweigh the dwindling novelty of it all.
So I began to work on a Rube-Goldberg machine that would self re-set all the pieces.
I knew people would think that was weird. So I never told anyone in meatspace about it. My bedroom became my own amusement park!

There was actually a documentary on Felstaff shown on tv a while ago, I'll see if I can find the bit about his morning routine.

I construct miniature missile launchers out of clothes pegs.

My boyfriend is going to do that kind of thing when he builds his servers. He was considering either the fates, the Furies, the Three Wise Men, or some other nerdy stuff-- I don't rightly recall. I like it.
I also want to see pictures of Felstaff's bedroom.
Haha, PeeWee!
Sahan-- What are the missiles made out of?

I used to have three fish named Lee, Harvey, and Oswald.
